Comments for Crowded House, Woodface

Although it may have benn their best seller (to date), it is a very atypical album. This is probably due to the colaboration with Neil's older brother Tim. They both wrote together in Split Enz (excellent band from 70/80's, although obscure) and decided to give it a go when ideas for Woodface were few. A very harmony based album which has more instant appeal than the others, but doesn't hold the same rewards for perseverance. Tim left the band after a short time on the British leg of their first tour after Woodface. Split Enz listening - True colours, History never repeats (Greatest Hits)

I think this record is one of the best ever made. All the songs are exellent, and "Four seasons in one day" is my favorite song of all songs.

This is their best album. It represents the true skill of the Finn brothers magic skill in producing pop songs of the highest order of crastman(person?)ship. Comparisons with the Beatles are inevitable. ANd maybe UK Squeeze too. But they are unique despite the analogy. Listen to this album.

Au contraire, mes amis. This album is far from okay. I would be lying if I said that I didn''t think that the sun shone out of Neil Finn''s backside (in songwriting metaphor, of course) but this album is so inconsistent! I love the material on it, but because of the lack of integration between Neil''s stuff and Tim''s stuff, it makes for a most incoherent album. You''ve got 14 or so songs that would have sounded great as half of a Crowded House album or as a Tim Finn album, but together they just sound like a badly compiled ''Best Of...'' album. Now I''m finished ranting, I can say that "All I Ask" is one of the finest songs that Tim Finn has ever written, and that "Four Seasons" is right up there with "Into Temptation" in Neil''s songwriting cannon. Neil and Tim make a fine writing parnership, only Crowded House were not the vehicle to make it work to its best potential. I understand that the Finn Brothers partnership will continue, so I''m looking forward to hearing the next installment.
