Comments for Davis, Miles, In A Silent Way

Joe Zawinul is particuliarly fantastic on this 60's electric masterpiece. The last 5 minutes on this album is perhaps the most beauti- ful music I have ever heard. This album started a new era in jazz. 10 out of 10! Jaco571@aol.com

I think this one's a bit overrated. Side 1 is very different and peaceful, but not played all that fluidly. Side Two is groovy, but not superior to a lot of the Blue Note output from this time frame. It's a good record but I wouldn't call it a classic.

Historically important, and among the most beautiful recorded music I''ve ever heard. Side one''s gentle groove with its constantly shifting dynamics (driven by Tony Williams''s steady pulse) perfectly suit its february in new York origins, as do Zawinul''s title piece. Miles''s "It''s About That Time" is considerably more propulsive, and Williams''s explosion at about the 14-minute mark of the second piece is one of those epiphanies I can listen to a million times without tiring of it. Dave Holland also deserves special notice here - a remarkable player in one of his finer moments.
