Comments for Davis, Miles, Jazz on the Screen

Subtitled: Original Sound Track From Famous French FilmsThe first ten tracks are Miles with Barney Wilen(sax), ReneUrtreger(piano), Pierre Michelot(bass), all important Frenchjazz artists, and Kenny Clark, American drummer in Paris. These were recorded for a Frech movie, "Elevator to theScaffold," but are not at all boring background music. Fromquick bop to Sketches of Spain-type stuff, Miles does notleave behind his artistic integrity."Some of the very best,if not the best, Miles solos(Ralph J. Gleason)."The last three tracks are Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, and show "the more subdued, reflective side of...a groupnoted for the explosive, searing force of the hard-bopapproach(Pete Welding`s liner notes)." With Blakey areBenny Golson(tenor sax), Lee Morgan(trumpet), Bobby Timmons(piano), and Jimmy Merritt(bass). These three were used for"The Women Disappear."
