I think this one's "darker" than Pangea, but not in a good way. I've never been able to get into this - it doesn't seem special in any way, it's just noise to me. By contrast Pangea is beautiful.

I don't see why this is considered less "dark" than Pangaea. To me, it's moodier, denser and more aggresive - which doesn't by definition make it less beautiful. It suits a different set of moods than Pangaea, but they both move all over the place. I don't think one can be fully appreciated without the other. Cosey and Sonny Fortune tear through the first disc until "Maiysha," which brings things down to a nice close. The second opens up with "Theme From jack Johnson" and moves into completely uncharted territory. Had Miles not decided to retire for a while after this, there's no telling what sort of indescribable hybrids may have resulted. Forget "fusion," this is just new music. It shows roots in just about everything that came before it, but it's a synthesis of them, not a rehash. Perfectly incredible to me.
