21 year old Randy California's 1972 solo album after the original Spirit dis-banded, is a classic of heavy, psychedelic rock guitar. A scorching mix of originals and covers, generously utilising the fuzz, wah-wah and echo with taste and layering intricate guitar parts, the sound is unmistakably inspired by Hendrix, whom Randy played with live in 1966. Of course, there is only one Hendrix, but Randy's guitar playing is brilliant in it's own way, and he had already established a reputation as a guitar stylist with Spirit. This album, along with 1975's Spirit Of 76, are widely regarded as his finest work.
