Comments for Deep Purple, Deep Purple

By this point, MK I Deep Purple has started to develop into a real good band as they lay off the cover versions a bit and go into some of their own songwriting. And the result shows some excellent playing as may be expected, but some good songs as well "Blind", "Why Didn't Rosemary?". The masterpiece song of the album which features some of Ritchie's and Jon's best playing is "April". Not only is the best song for MK I Deep Purple but it's one of the best songs ever done by Deep Purple. This song should MK I could travel very far, but it was not to last for long as it was the last album MK I did.

Finally, the MkI album worthy of the Deep Purple name! This is such an improvement over the first two that it''s hard to believe it''s the same band. The first flawless album they released and the only MkI album to stand the test of time. Notable for the epic "April" and two songs that are blueprints for the MkII sound "Why Didn''t Rosemary?" and "The Painter". Blackmore and Lord are awsome on this album! This is the Machine Head of the MkI line-up! I used to wish they had done one more like this before Ian & Roger came on board. The perfect segue into the 70''s! An essential addition to any hard rock collection and a must have for all Purple fans. Jim C.
