Comments for Diamond, Neil, Lovescape

A concept album in which Diamond explored the emotional topography of love (again!). It works well most of the time, though towards the end some of the sentiments get repetitive. Neil's version of 'Don't Turn Around' is a winner and his version of 'One Hand, One Heart' is very emotionally charged. Elsewhere his original compositions are as good as any he's written in the last 15 years. This album was a critical and commercial success and led to Diamond's two year "Love In the Round" tour, which broke many worldwide box office records.

His voice just isn't there anymore. Many of the songs just sound stale and forced. This isn't the same Neil Diamond from Hot August Night, but for a true fan it's worthwhile I guess.

You've got to give this album time. I've been listening to it for ages... (I WORE out the tape). It grows on you, and it's truly great.
