Comments for Dokken, Breaking the Chains

E-MAIL: INDY BABY@aol.com
My first introduction to Dokken. I''ll always love this one. Especially Georges'' playing on "Paris is Burning" and I love "Felony"
This album can be considered the warm up for the much improvedTooth and Nail album which appeared a year later. Don Dokken`svoice seems subdued in this recording, especially when came comparedto Tooth and Nail. None of the tracks on this album are real attention getters, although the title track, Breaking The Chainsgave the goup it`s initial break which led to the popularity of thenext album. George Lynch plays on this album, he is known for a fast fingering method which echoes Eddie Van Halen`s, however, Lynchdoes his playing with no Tapping which if listened to carefully leadsthe listener to appreciate his playing. As a purchaser, ifhovering between this album and Tooth and Nail, definitely giveTaN the nod.

Though the mix is a little rough on the tune Breaking the chains, I find it to be one of the best songs ever written. I wish Dokken or the label would release a "remixed" and "remastered" version. The vocals are indeed very subdued, but the producer/engineer cranked the vocals and drowned them in reverb. Bump the rythme and remix the vox, you have a damn good tune. Dr. T
