If you don't own this album, not only do you lack any taste in music, you cannot call youself a Dylan fan. And claiming not to like folk music is no excuse. This will GET you into folk music. It start off great with Blowin' In The Wind, and it reaches real highs with It's A hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall and Talkin' WWIII Blues, but I think he could have ended the album on a stronger song than I Shall Be Free. Still, that last song is NO excuse. Go! Go Buy! Go Buy Today!

What is it about Dylan-- even with all the topical references, etc., this album (along with the rest of his work) sounds just as up-to-date today as it did in 1963!

One of my favorites - the best one of his early folk period. A great mix of protest, sarcasm and humor "WW3 Blues." My favorite is "Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall."

a testament to the absolute genius of bob dylan. one man with an acoustic guitar opened doorways & minds with an album that balances between the emotions and the intellect so deftly that you come to realize that they are one and the same. erases all boundaries, harmonizes all opposites and asks all the right questions.

If you are going to buy one Dylan acoustic album, this is the one to get. The requisite "protest" numbers are there, but so are the tender love songs, and here''s the clincher- this album is funny: talking about the politician out stumping for votes, "He''s eatin'' chitlins, he''s eatin'' bagels, he''s eatin'' pizza." Two of his finist songs from any era are included- "Blowing in the Wind", which may be his most recognizable song worlwide and with good reason. It is a heartfelt plea for a more just world with that enigmatic punch line, "The answer my friend is blowin'' in the wind..."??? The other is "Hard Rain''s Gonna Fall", a haunting, apocalyptic poem, a tradition Dylan would mine for the next 35+ years, coupled with his promise to "tell it and speak it...and reflect from the mountain so all souls may see it." It is a great song. "Girl From the North Country" and "Don''t Think Twice" are the love songs, and good ones at that. Just voice, guitar, and harmonica (a bit more one lovely "Corrina, Corrina") and 36 years later it doesn''t sound dated at all. Ranks among Dylan''s top 8 albums.
How could this album not have been listed before? How cananyone call themselves a Dylan fan without hearing thisalbum first. It is pure GENIUS! My personal favorite albumfrom Blowin` all the way to I shall be free. Get it now!

I've had this album since it came out in 1963, wore out one copy and still play the second fairly often. I still think it's his best, but then I'm a folkie. The thing is that with popular music having largely died a death, I am going back to Dylan (and Baez) more and more often. Although 'Girl From the North Country' is really 'Scarborough Fair' with Dylan's lyrics, it still makes the heartstrings twang for an old girlfriend. Beautiful (the song and maybe the girlfriend.)
