Comments for English, Michael, Freedom

I just popped this CD back in ... more comments. As expected, Michael has moved away from the contemporary Christian genre to mainstream pop. His voice is one of the best in the business, and it's definitely showcased here. He does a fairly good cover of John Berry's wonderful "Your Love Amazes Me," and yes, that is Leo Sayer's "When I Need You" -- updated with a groove. He also does a lot of work here with the great Tommy Sims. "Give It Away" is excellent, but my favorite track is an evocative ballad called "The Wind". Honestly, I don't feel this release really compares with his self-titled debut or his follow-up, "Hope". "Freedom" is slickly produced and singles will probably do well -- it just seems emotionally empty compared to his earlier work. I hope, in the future, the Michael who sang "In Christ Alone" with such breathtaking intensity comes back in future releases.

I have been a huge fan of Mike''s for a long time so I was thrilled when I heard he was singing again. Once again he has amazed me with his voice! "The Wind" "When I Need You" and "Why Didn''t I " are great. I will support his albums and career no mateer what the style. Glad to see him back to Gospel even though I had no problem with this album. Michael has the voice of a angel and I love to hear him sing !
Absolutely no denying the voice -- he does some writing as well. One track, "Find My Way Back To You", includes Marabeth Jordonas a co-writer.
