Comments for Eurythmics, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

E-MAIL: dianne.brown@state.mn.us
Their breakthrough album holds up wonderfully after all these years. Has the perfect mix of Annie's longing in her lyrics and voice and Dave's guitar and synthesizer work. How many albums by other artists released in that year are this good all the way through?

Surely ''Love Is The Law'' by Toyah is the album of 1983, but this Eurythmics album has extremely fine moments. Both singles were classics even when they got released, although ''Love Is A Stranger'' did not receive its due share of attention until ''Sweet Dreams'' had conquered the charts. Apart from other outstanding tracks like ''Jennifer'' and ''This City Never Sleeps'' this album provided something really new. Within all those New Wave recordings, the Eurythmics created an unusual and different sound that has remained unique to them and this is not only due to Annie''s breath-taking voice. And if that wouldn''t be enough, the lyrics are really intriguing!!!
