Wow! MF on French orn? I've read biogaphies on MF being able to pay French Horn, but I've actually not heard him play French Horn before! I don't have this album, so how does he sound playing French Horn?

This CD is a reissue of the two Cameo LP's; The New Sounds of Maynard Ferguson and Come Blow Your Horn.

If you can listen to the last minute of "Antony & Cleo.." and not play it again, you can't call yourself a Maynard Fan. It might just be the coolest minute in the history of recorded music!

If you can play the last minute of Antony & Cleopatra and leave the room without playing it again, you cannot call yourself a Maynard fan. It may be the coolest minute in the history of recorded music. Watermelon Man is also very cool. I heard it for the first time while watching a sunrise on the Serengett

If anyone knows where to find this CD I would appreciate the name of the store, and its phone #. I live in the Chicago area but would gladly call any record store anywhere. I have tried CDNow and visited Tower Records and Best Buy locally to no avail. Help, fellow fanatics!! Thanks!!

This CD can sometimes be ordered from TAP Music Sales 1-800-554-7628. I'm told it goes in and out of print often, but that's where I got it.

Maynard's band of the early 60s was, in my opinion, his best, and sadly this was their last recording. Many of the personnel had been together for a number of years, and they new how to play, arrange, and write for each other. With the unique blend of Lanny Morgan solos, Rufas Jones playing on top of the beat (producing the sensation of constant acceleration), and Willie Maiden (the master of understatement) bringing you back down to a calmer state so that Maynard could take you back up one more time, this album is vintage Maynard. On "Cherokee", Lanny Morgan never once plays the melody, but plays around it so skillfully that you always hear it. Play Cherokee some time and just listen to Rufus on the drums. Has any drummer ever had more punch?

When I first heard this album I WAS a Kenton fan, but NOT AFTER Ihis was a band like no other, and capable of an infatuation that could aspire to addiction.it was exciting beyond belief.THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS GETTING MORE OF IT.Every bar of music was fantastic.IT really was a swinger. This was prime time for Maynard.

I spent tons of time at BIRDLAND when Maynard's band was in town. I grew up with Willie Maiden. We went to high school together and Willie wrote our first arrangements for our dance band which he participated in. I remember Slide Hampton especially. That 64 band could never be duplicated. I was a front row man for many of Maynard's gigs. Just listening made me feel so very good. BRUCE PARSONS
