Comments for Ferguson, Maynard, Conquistador

Bill Conti wrote a great song in "Gonna Fly Now". Mr. Ferguson is the best to play it!

This album, while not very jazzy in the old world sense does have the many characteristics one would find out of a Ferguson album. In summation the album is fun and pop.

This album is INCREDIBLY funky. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys funk, but also has a fondness for really talented players.

This is the greatest Maynard CD of all time. "Gonna Fly Now" is by far the best song, but Star Trek is not shabby with the spectacular flute solo. GREAT CD, RIGHT DOWN TO THE LAST BREATH.

This is the first Maynard Album I ever listened to. We played Rocky in my Jazz Ensemble in High School, and I still get goose bumps when I listen to it.

"How about Chattaway's composition of "Conquistador". Aren't those background vocals chilling?!"

What an album, folks!! Even though the musical quality is not there, the beat is, and so is the Maynard technique that blows me away! How about the double high d on "The Fly" or his run in "Rocky"? HEY COLUMBIA - WHY DON'T YOU PUT SOME MORE STUFF OUT ON CD AND MAKE SOME CASH! We would thank you for it!

Conquistador is a must for any trumpet player in this world!!!Love this album without a question a true mid 70's MF.......

This was the fourth Maynard album I ever bought and was a disappointment. It doesn't rate with Chameleon or MF Horn 2. The mix is too heavy on the rhythm section, especially the bass. Listening to it now. it seems like the music is dated by the style of recording.

This sure is a funky album - it does reflect the times. Talk about an all-star band - Maynard recruited Alan Rubin (Blues Brothers band) and even Will Lee (bass on David Letterman's show!) Not to mention many others - this is a FINE album !!!

I f this album did nothing else but bring the sounds of this great inovator to the masses it was worth brining in some of the "pop/disco" influences into it. The problem was that after this album came out the pressure was on to keep merging in the pop/disco sound to the detrament of upholding the true jazz influances that this great assebly of musisions could have maintained consistantly. i.e. Arigen fr." New Vintage" & Stela by Starlight fr." Carnival"l.

I think the album is more like a great top hit like his album "Primal Scream" His powerful sound is more like a screaming piccolo. the hits that he did on "Chameleon' is much particular. I think "Conquistador" is 100% A+.
