I want to add my praise to trombonist Tom Garling on this album. He is without question my favorite trombone soloist. His work on Caravan and the Gospel Truth are incredible! Matt Keller

Hey, this album is great! Chip McNeill did a great job on I'll be around, with the accompaniment of a great piano. Maynard sings it great on his chart "He Can't Swing" but Matt Wallace's job in Hoochi Coochie Man takes the cake. Great album, and It's the gospel truth, although sounding close to Gospel John, is still a great chart.

This album is so musical. I love every chart. This album should have received Grammy consideration along with the original composition "Sweet Baba Suite" Om Sai Ram

Maynard is GOD! Tell him to come back to Jazz Alley in Seattle. He's still got it at his age. How old is Maynard anyways? I agree with the previous comments about the trombone player. Those cats can swing!!

Tom Garling is the best. Never have I seen a trombone hit the pedal tone in 7th position and siren up without ever moving the slide. Incredible... Also a great guy. The new drummer Marco Marcinco takes the cake... Maynard rocked Nashville!

"These Cats can Swing" is a must buy! The arrangement of Caravan is AWESOME! Check out his new arrangement of Birdland if you see him live!

"This album takes the cake!!! "He can't Swing" is a wonderfully humorous chart, and MF's composition "Sweet Baba Sweet" is phenominal! I saw him and is band do it last year and it just moved everyone's soul! As usual the young "Cats" in his current bad rock the jazz scene!!"

Actually, MF will be 68 on May 4, 1996.

I saw Maynard at Purdue University October '95 and it was awesome!!! Look out for Lead Trumpeter Scott Englebright (on tour) - he's from the University of North Texas. He wailed effortlessly in concert!

Tremendous Album!!! One of the best of Maynard's many great albums. The trumpet shout on Hoochie Coochie Man psyches me up for every job I go to play...play it over and over...not a weak link on this entire album...Maynard may not play quite as high as he once did (we should all be so unfortunate??), but his lyricism and romanticism in his playing cuts right through me...keep it up, Maynard!!!

The musicianship in this band is Maynard's best since his bands of the 70s. All the soloists are excellent. This is one tight group. And the Matt Wallace solo on "I'll Be Around" would have made Willie Maiden smile. It will be difficult for Maynard to top this album; clearly his best in years.

I think that These Cats Can Swing is one of the best albums ever recorded by anyone anywhere
This is one hell of an album.Worth every cent.Gospel Truth is worth the price of the album. WithTrombonist Tom Garling preaching to the already convertedand Maynard taking it home some typical high note Licks.
