Maynard is the best, but this album is not!!!

This is, in my opinion, at the top of the list, only behind Conquistidor. With songs like "Hit in the Head," you WILL NOT go wrong.

WELL, I have the San Fransisco CD from a live performance in 1983 and Maynard and the band sound 100% better on it!! This studio date is a little bland to me, it almost seems like Maynard is saying to himself "hey, I've done one to many pop-crap albums, so I'll just make this one crap!" Not to say that the musicians quality is bad, this band is HOT, but the music is NOT. I guess the band was tired of the same old pop beat or something, but they do their best. Sesame Street is a good laugh and "As Time Goes By" is a good comedy vocal. Does anybody else have an opinion on this one?

Take tha a train is by far the best song on the cd. The only problem I have with this cd is that Maynard sounds tired all the way through it. Especially on as time goes by.Not his best album by far.

This album is not one of his best. For those of you have followed Maynard's records for the last 40 years +, you have to admit that this is one of the first albums where he starts to sound his age. He plays sloppy on other albums but this is the start of his decline due to his accumulating years in life. Don't get me wrong, Maynard can still blow pretty good, but he just aint what he used to be.

Ok Maynard Ferguson fans you might say he sounded tired in this album well i was there on the Recording of the album and i know why he sounded tired for one the music was great but when he was recording this album he was using a different mouthpiece from what he normally was using back during the 70's what he was using during the 70's was a jet tone mouthpiece know he is using a monette mouthpiece which is better than a jet tone a monette mouthpiece offers a more intune sound and with out allot of effort what happen was Maynard didn't know what it required to play this new mouthpiece and also they try something different on recording putting a microphone right in his horn. Maynard thought he didn't have to play as loud as he could you will notice his last songs on this album he started to play louder and more powerful because he realized that he was sounding weak. But still a great album of Maynard Ferguson look at his newer albums dosen't he play allot louder know than he did on this album.
