Merits a reissue. Great vintage stuff. "Hey There" is a tear jerker.

I saw this band play these tunes at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City N.J. I was 12 yrs old. It was a late afternoon performance. They played in the center ballroom. I don't think there were too many people there. I was standing right in front of the stage, looking up at Maynard.....wow what an experience!!!!! The sun was setting over the ocean and me hearing the best band ever............... Ed Zeuner Riverside N.J.

Where's Teddy has to be heard to be believed! We stand in awe of the Master!

This is perhaps Maynard's finest old album. "Hey There" is an incredible arrangement, played like no one else could. You can get this album's content on CD through the "Complete Roulette Recordings by Maynard Ferguson" issued by Mosaic Records. Costs a bunch but albums like this one make it worth it.

In the Mosaic set, it describes that this album was pressed wrong and I have the copy of the LP that is all messed up. Side 2 is almost the same as Side 1 and some of the songs are on it twice while other songs are not on it at all. Luckily I have the Great Mosaic set that gives the correct recordings. This is a must have album for any Maynard collector! I would (and did) purchase the Mosaic set. It is well worth it!

Most of the arrangements on this album are by the great Willie Maiden especially "Hey There" and "Where''s Teddy" If you listen carefully you can hear the relationship between Where''s Teddy" and "A Little Minor Booze"
Good selection of charts. Adequate display of Maynard`stechnical brilliance early in his solo career.

One of Maynard's finest efforts. The arrangements are incredible, and his "chops" were exceptional during this period. I heard the band play at a Homecoming Dance at the University of Iowa... no one danced! But, what a listening experience. I have the original recording, but will be looking for the Mosaic CD set to update my collection. For those of you who don't know about it, one of the Maynard's band alumni, Wayne Bergeron, has a TERRIFIC cd out called "And you Call this a Living?" Available from Concord Records.
