This was the first album of Maynard's that I ever bought. It was new at the time and I liked it alright. I did not like the corny backup singers on the tunes "It's My Time" and "Star". As I got older I really began to enjoy this album. In high school, our jazz band played "Dance To Your Heart" and "The Spirit Of St. Frederick". Both of these tunes were fun to play. Maynard plays very well on this album and with the exception of a few corny sections it is a nice album to listen to.

MF's playing on this album is excellent, I think he plays non-stop on "Star"!

Am still waiting for those Bozos at Columbia to release this, and other Maynard LPs, on CD format. The question is not, "Is this one of his best albums?" An artist with as many releases as Maynard can only have so many "best albums." The question is "Will be buy it? Will we add it to our MF collection?" and the answer is "Absolutely YES!" How do we lobby Columbia to get their act together?
Collectors Item!! It`s a LP but if you see it...BUY IT !!-An offering of love ; This will make you cry! It`splayed so unbelievable beautiful (I`m still emotional`bout it)
I re-entered this because I couldn`t comment on the other entry. I`ve read where MF didn`t paticularly like this LP - but I think it`s GREAT. "Everybody Loves The Blues" is an all-time classic. Anyone disagree?? Nick Lane arranged most of the cuts (and plays a mean bone) and Stan Mark wails on lead trumpet. If you fin this anywhere - buy it !!
