I was in the audience for the premier performance of Russo's "Titans Symphony #2." Bernstein conducted with abandon, and the audience responded to this newly commissioned work by composer, William ("Bill" Russo. When the Scherzo (Finale) was played, with Maynard Fergsuon as soloist, one could sense the electricfying force of Bernstein, the New York Philharmonic, Ferguson's screech trumpet, all combined to present Russo's work. The roar of the applause of the audience at the finish, was upstanding. To hear this work in full splendor, one can purchase a 10 CD set of Bernstein's performances "live", available from the N.Y. Philharmonic E-Store. One of the performances is Titans.
