"One in a Million" is just that....

ALIBI is truly an outstanding musical gem. GERRY & DEWEY invested an extraordinary amount of effort into this LP. They really combined a lot of acoustic based instrumentation with some very innovative keyboard arrangements. Every song on this LP is superb; there are never fill-in songs on any AMERICA LP. You can really crank up some of these on the ole' stereo & hear AMERICA at their best. When this LP is released on CD, which will by late summer, you can bet that demand will be high. Don't miss this one. 12 & 6 string rhythm guitar with electric lead, leads the pack here. And don't miss GERRY

Definitely a transitional album. They began using more keyboards and less of a pure acoustic sound. The songs range from terrific ("Survival") to awful ("Hangover"). Overall, a somewhat tentative step into the eighties.

Hey, wait a second!! I think "Hangover" is a cool song! (Of course I also like "Slow Down" from Harbor, but that's another argument for another day...)

Alibi seemed to be a stepping stone from the George Martin acoustic era to a more electric 80's sound. Unfortunately, America is at it's best when they stick to what works. "Hangover" didn't bother me because it seems that Dewey Bunnel adds one odd track to every album (i.e. "Pigeon Song", "Lady with a Bluebird"...). However in some instances the change in style works. "Survival" is an outstanding cut that was never given a chance on American radio. "Might Be Your Love", "I Don't Believe In Miracles" and "Coastline" also are very good tracks.

This is one of my favorite albums. I think it is as strong as anything they did during their peek. They strike the right mix of their own songs and using songs written by others, to make up for the loss of Dan Peek. BTW, this album is finally available on CD as a French import. You should be able to get it from any place that carries European imports.

Great album. " Valentine" and "I Do Believe in You" are the best songs on it and shoulda been hits.

My first reaction to "Alibi" was disappointment that it was not a "band" effort...it relied largely on studio musicians and I wasn't too thrilled about seeing that. But overall I do like the album. "Survival" should be put back in the concerts....along with "Valentine" Jim...Erie,Pa

I think Alibi is wonderful album. It simply has a class of its own. Many people really don't like Alibi, it seems they don't have taste.

I think Alibi is one of America's strongest albums as a duo. The songs are well written and there's a balance of mellow tunes and harder driving tunes. Hangover is one of my favorite songs. Dewey is an essential songwriter because he keeps listeners on their toes with slight unconventional songs. Without that, they would be just another group to have Muzac tunes made by. Valentine is another great tune. They haven't had that youthful rock feel for a while. This is also one of the hardest albums to find as a collector (especially on CD) at music stores.

Though not my favorite AMERICA L.P. some of the songs are Gerry & Dewey at their best! "Catch That Train", "Might Be Your Love" & "Survival" are first rate. I really get a kick out of Russ Ballard's"I Don't Believe In Miracles" because if you erased Gerry's Lead Vocal and had Karen Carpenter step in to sing the vocal I think it would make more sense. Next time any of you AMERICA Fans listen to that song, close your eyes & pretend it's a Carpenters song. I Think Karen would be proud.

I think Alibi was a very strong album and ranks with one of my favorite. variety is the spice of life. This album while still leaving you with some of the acoustic sounds you love hearing from the band (Survival, Catch that Train among them) they also Rock with songs like Valentine, Might be your love, and Hangover) I honestly couldn't find a weak song on the album. there's something here that you could listen to at any given time. i glad it's finaly available on CD.

"Right back to me", best song ever in the history of pop music, foll0wed closely by "I do believe in you" and "I don't believe in miracles".

Alibi is one of the best ROCK albums that America ever put out. Using some of the LA Scene''s best studio musicians, they have assembled a package well worth searching for. Top picks- "Survival", "You Could''ve Been The One", "Might Be Your Love", "Coastline", and the hauntingly beautiful "I Don''t Believe In Miracles".

Released in 1980, this was America’s first album not produced by George Martin since 1973. Matthew McCauley and Fred Mollin take over from Martin and use a simpler approach to production. While it was not a hit in the US, it was a hit in Europe (Survival was a number 1 single in Italy) and Mexico (Right Back To Me charted there). Best songs are I Do Believe In You, Valentine, and Catch That Train.

I bought the Alibi LP at a garage sale a few years back, though I am a huge America fan I cant afford to get all of there cds. I must say that Alibi is a Great Album I love Survival, Right back to me, Coastline, Valintine, and One in a Million, wich is a great ballad. I also have a lesser known America Album only available as an Import. I first heard America's Music from watching The Last Unicorn. The soundtrack is available under the german name Dasletze Einhorn. check it out if you are a fan of America

Alibi was a great album, I liked it so much and I think that "Survival" was one the greatest songs in the 80's. I'm an Italian fan and I remember the first time I listened to this song:it was during an Italian Music Festival(Sanremo festival)...the America were special guests. The first thing I said was:"Oh God..what a beautiful guitar solo...." then I found out the guitar man in the track was the great Steve Lukather...one of the best guitar hero of the world.....Thanks America..Thanks Luke....

E' assolutamente il migliore, ascoltatelo sul CD di Mario Lavezzi "Voci e Chitarre" nel brano "Non Sapere Chi Sei" Lunga Vita a LUKE Che la FORZA sia con Te

This is a truly great America album i always listen to it. It has so many great songs on it. The best is survival.

Alibi secondo me č uno dei migliori dischi fatti dagli America ,ben scritto e ben arrangiato.

When this album was released in 1980, I was hoping for a better LP than the last. They had no hit single off the album because for some strange reason they didn't release "Survival" which was by far the best song on the LP and the best they've done in a few years. I think Capitol records screwed up with that decision. They released "You could've Been The One" instead which was an OK song, but not as strong as "Survival" Other good songs on the LP are "Might Be Your Love" "Coastline" and "Catch That Train" ............PS
