Comments for Amos, Tori, Under The Pink

A great album! "God" is fairly controversial, but very inspiring to some...I have been a big Tori fan for years, so I knew I'd love the album before I even bought it! Definitely a "thumbs up"! :) My favorite song on the album? Lemmeee see...hmmm... I would have to say "Cornflake Girl" for turning up REALLY loud, and "Pretty Good Year" or "Yes, Anastasia" for those deep, poetic, candle-lighting, thinking-about-the-past moods.

Although I like this album very much, somehow it never seems to quite measure up to the power and feeling in 'Little Earthquakes.' I wonder if anyone else has noticed this phenomenon...

...and Trent Reznor (Nine inches Nails) for the backing vocals on 'Past the Mission'

When I first heard this album, it seamed to be a bit strange to me. But after having heard it for some times, it has become my favourite album. The voice of Tori Amos is fantastic. With the piano she creates an special atmosphere that is rare in the music scene. If you like the music of Kate Bush you will love the music of Tori Amos. My favourite tracks are 'The wrong band', 'Cornflake girl', 'Yes, Anastasia'. (Mike Rumpf)

her best body of work. It got me through rough times. enough said.

Tori's two albums are very different. "Little Earthquakes" is more personal and confessional; it has a sparser, more intimate feel, like reading someone's very personal diary. "Under The Pink" is more surreal, a little poppier, more accessible. It's like a surrealist painting. I like them both and I'm sure you will too. --Zeigen

Under the Pink is a triumphant masterpiece, ( not that I'm biased or anything ), I only hope that any futher albums capture my imagination as much. She says that Little Earthquakes was more personal, but I don't think that Under The Pink Loses anything by being a little more detached. Keep recording Tori...

Under the Pink is beautiful in its own way and it is not fair to compare it to Little Earthquakes because they are soooo different. UTP is perfect. My favorite songs are "Pretty Good Year," "Baker Baker," and "Icicle." I know that Tori will continue to grow and that her next album will be different still. I only hope that the fans that want a retread of LE will be able to grow with her.

Under the Pink is one of the best CD's I have ever heard. The title is perfect. It seems a logical follow up to Little Earthquakes. The song "Baker Baker" proves this. She seems to be saying in this song how emotionally estranged she is at times, maybe after "Me and a Gun." I can't wait until her next CD is out.

UTP has proved to be the most couragous piece of audio art ever. tori's music...each song paints the most vivid artistic piece of work in your head. each time you listen a new song becomes your favorite...and it always seems to form to your moods, sad, happy tranquil. it is almost an insult to consider it music.
E-MAIL: lelak@healey.com.au
It's not fair to compare UtP to LE. They are Tori at two different stages of her life, and they illustrate each beautifully. "Baker Baker" is the step onwards from "China", "Space Dog" the successor to "Happy Phantom". It will be interesting to see how she has changed again with the forthcoming "Boys For Pele".

Tori Amos Under The Pink Atlantic 82567-2 LE brought me into Tori's heart and helped open my own. I was forced to face my own demons and realize that keeping "silent" was not working. UTP continued this process, but in a different way. You cannot compare the two. It is obvious if you listen to "China" that "Baker, Baker" is the next step. Don't compare, just enjoy.

An incredible album. Truly inspirational, in my humble opinion. "Baker, baker" is a great love song. "God" and "Icicle" are my personal favorites. The sound different than "Little Earthquakes" -- way more acoustic and resonant. It's still as least as good as the other I personally like most of the tracks better (though "Silent All These Years" is as great as "Icicle" -- that is, beyond compare)

Like other people have commented, UTP cannot be compared to Little Earthquakes... UTP for me was just as emotional, but it had a different edge to it. I especially feel close to Yes, Anastasia and Icicle. God and The Waitress are very powerful. Tori will always blow my mind with her emotion and talent.

This is without a doubt my favorite album, although I have to admit, after obsessing over Little Earthquakes for months it took some time for me to get into Under the Pink. The sound is definitely different, but in my opinion more mature. I've heard some interesting interpretations of "Cornflake Girl", a central song in the album. In a New York Times article, she said it was about genital mutilations. The whole album was inspired by Alice Walker's Possessing the Secret of Joy (good book). A central theme is women betraying women. I love this album.

I became a Toriphile the first time i saw the video for 'Cornflake Girl'. Before that, i had never heard of her (what a shame) After a little while i bought UtP and i must have listened to each of the tracks about a million times. About a year later i found out that Tori made an album before Utp: little earthquakes. From that point, my Tori-obsession started growing and it still hasn't reached its top. my LE-top 3: 1. winter 2. girl 3. china my Utp-top 3: 1. Cornflake girl 2. Cloud on my tongue 3. Icicle my BfP-top 3: 1. Caught a lite sneeze 2. Marianne 3. In the springtime of his voodoo BYE!

When my parents divorced, I was away at college. I listened to "Under the Pink" every week as I walked to my counseling appointments. So much healing came from "Bells for Her," "Past the Mission," "Cloud on my Tongue," and "Yes, Anastasia," I don't even know how to rate this album. It's like rating my own heartbeat.

Tori Amos is God. She just makes so much sense to me, especially being a young woman in this world. Tori breathes pure truth. "Boys For Pele" is amazing! My favorite song is "The Doughnut Song". Please send me mail about Tori if you feel the same! Greetings from UVM!

Definitely a winner... Tori Amos is one of the most talented musicians I've seen in a long time... Boys for Pelé was also incredible... I can't wait for the nest one...

I wasn't interested in Tori Amos until my English teacher left a copy of LE out in his room for the class to listen to. Until then, I had thought that Tori was just another teeny-bopper chick who would have one hit single and then vanish from the music industry. As I listened to LE, I realized how talented she was and how effectively she could communicate her impressions to others. I then bought UTP; although it was much less technical and more laid back, it still spoke to me. I don't much care for BFP, so I look forward to her next album. OUT.

Under The Pink is a great album! Now that Boys For Pele has come out we really have stuff to compare. Little Earthquakes still remains to be my favorite.....No maybe Under The Pink........wait maybe Boys For Pele.......HEHE!
E-MAIL: ANaStAsla@aol.com
Under The Pink,is most definetly different that her other two albums, but shouldn't that be Tori's goal? I mean, that is why musicians leave fame as fast as they got to it. It adds flavor to the aspect of the artist. Little Earthquakes, and Boys For Pele are they're own albums, just as Under The Pink is. Why try and compare albums? They should be as if they are from a totally different side of a person. I praise Tori for defeating the obstacles that other artists have not. Why should we want to see the same side of a person? We should want to see all of the sides of Tori.

I love Tori Amos! Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink. Under th Pink has three of my favorite songs on it. Icicle, Cornflake Girl, and God. Buy this album!

Awesome. If any of her albums were to make me cry, this is the one. And it did. Her voice is very distinctive and beautiful. Love Tori Always

For years this was the only album of hers that I had. I love this album along a lot. I dont mean to be cheesy, but it's kind of strange how listening to Tori's music and singing her songs can be so soothing to me when I am upset. It's kinda like a crutch or a drug. But I guess everybody finds a way to release their pain other than committing suicide. Or maybe it's just me.

yes anastasia is the very best song in the whole world. i truely love that song.

Tori Amos is one of the best artists today. I love the way she puts meaning into her lyrics. She has soul and isn't one of those crappy musicians who make a living by doing remix's.

The first tori cd I bought was LE awhile ago. I fell in love with her honesty and superb piano playing. My fav song off it would be "Winter" or "Mother" Then I got BFP and I was rather impressed, although not as much as with LE. My fav songs off BFP are "Marianne" and "Hey Jupiter" I also got her new cd, fantastic!! She kicks ass! I totally reccomend buying her newest!

I'd like to say a few words 'bout this one. It's the first Tori Album I owned, and now I have all four and one single. I still remember the way I listened to it as a kid stuck in puberty, and since that a lot has changed. Still it's great music, from one of the greatest female composers ever

I like listening to UTP in the dark. Her voice transports me to another world. Past the Mission is a really unique and interesting song (as are most of her other songs-DUH!)

I saw Tori perform "Cornflake Girl" love. Everytime I hear the song now I get chills. I love Space Dog!

This album is sensational...Cornflake Girl and Waitress always brings me chills! Little Earthquakes makes me more emotional but this album gets me pepped up more! =)

I think this album has to grow on you. The singles were amazing but I was a bit disappointed with the album as a whole. There are some blinding songs on it though (Baker Baker, The Wrong Band, Bells For Her) and of course the added bonus of Tori doing a duet with one of my favourite artists Trent Reznor (Past The Mission).
I`m not sure yet...it`s brand new :) Sounds good so far...
I was a bit disapointed with this release at first. I guessI was expecting `Little Earthquakes 2` or something. But thisCD just gets better each time I hear it. `Bells for Her` istypically haunting in Tori`s unique way.`Past the Mission` isgreat and `God` is just plain intense. d`ohhh!
