You can tell why the first two didn''t make it onto Wind & Wuthering, but Inside & Out was probably pretty close to making it. I have a copy of them performing the song live in Sweden(the only time I''ve found on tape) and also a radio station outtake with a different mix of the excellent instrumental section. The songs seem to have a pretty strong Hackett influence - mostly his very British sense of humor, but also the guitar-heavy nature of the tracks. Wonder how much their exclusion from the LP influenced his departure.
Canadian EP with three rather interesting tunes. Match ofThe day is about futbol. Pigeons is about the rather nastypigeon problem in Trafalgar Square. The gem is Inside andOut..a piece that looks at the possiblity of someone goingto prison by mistake. Has a fantastic Genesis jam session.
I recently re-discovered this hidden gem through Kazaa. I owned the original lp, so no guilt trips necessary. It always amazes me that "Spot the Pigeon" is so often left out of Genesis discographies. Each song plays in your head long after you've listened to it. The third song which in those days meant you had to flip the disc to side "B" is "Inside and Out", truly one of the songs that separates Genesis both before and after Peter Gabriel. Phil's vocals are sad and perfect for the song and the group together tells a great musical story of a man wrongly jailed. I agree with a previous commentator that the tracks are probably all brain-childs of Hackett, and the guitar work certainly shows that. Mark in Edmonton
