This is the prime early Dead. One of the best things that has been put out so far. An truly classic performance!!!!

If you''ve been ambivilent about the Grateful Dead (like I was), Dick''s Picks 4 is the cd that might change your mind. Dark Star is the major attraction. It''s 30 minutes long, full of delicate, complexly intertwined guitar & bass parts that will leave you spellbound and wondering how they could keep it together for so long. Once you''ve played DS several times, it night occur to you to check out the rest, like the excellent China Cat/I Know You Rider. Eventually you might conclude that this a band who could really play, and (at last?) has put out an album that shows them at the top of their game. All the Dick''s Picks CDs are worth having, but this is the one to start with.
The legendary Fillmore East, New York, NY shows from2/13 & 14/70!!!! Most of thisdisc is from the 14th. TheAMAZING 30:00 Dark Star is the beginning of the legendaryfinal set from the 13th. More of these two shows is availble on "History Of The Grateful Dead, Volume 1."
