Incredibly solid album, especially for a debut. Check out songs 4 and 16 especially. Any doubts as to their loyalties should be answered with a look at their roots, the music.

I think that Green Day is the best alternative band I have ever heard. Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is a great CD to purchase.

This is a great album. After purchasing and listening to this album over and over, I instantly became a Green Day fan Not because of the MTV or Alternative radio hype of Dookie but because of this album. Nearly every song on this album portrays a portion of my life dealing with the female gender I was glad to know that I wasn't the only one who felt the way Billie Joe did when he wrote those songs. Excellent piece of song-writing Billie.

I don't like this album as much as Kerplunk or Dookie, but considering it was Green Day's first album you have to cut them some slack. My favorite songs off the album are "Going to pasalac1ua" and "Paper lanterns".

This was the first GD cd I got, it was before Dookie came out so I definitaly wasn't exposed to them becoming popular, don't be fooled by my screen name(it's a long story) but I'm hardcore into punk and eventhough this is bubble gum punk I love this cd especially going to pasalaqua.

To all those detractors who say that Green Day have sold out since moving to Reprise, I ask "What the hell''s wrong with you morons?" The music they crank out now sounds just like the music on their debut album. Yeah, it''s not lo-fi, and yes they''re making tons of money now, but the music is still great! Where is it written that recording artists have to make minimal cash for their work? I never understood the complaints the indie fans make about so called "corporate rock". It makes no difference at all. If a band sells out it''s because they choose to. It has nothing to do with the label. Green Day never had to sell out because their tunes were always catchy and memorable in the first place. I don''t think Reprise was sweating it out hoping for huge hits from Green Day. They knew the band was going to deliver them from the start. Just listen to any of their albums and you''ll see what I mean.
A great debut album (39/Smooth), combined with twoEPs (Slappy, and 1,000 Hours), make for a great CD.Contains the song that inspired the band name (track 5).
