Comments for Griffith, Nanci, Lone Star State of MindE-MAIL: Mthivier@bidmc.harvard.edu Yeah, the production might have been more country than other Griffith albums, but still a lot more substantial than the sleazy country syrup Reba McEntire and Wynonna dish out. This was the first of Nanci Griffith`s albums produced by Nashville veteran Tony Brown. Some critics disliked the commercial sound of the album because it`s a distinct departure from the more spare, folk-like albums that preceded it. But her voice has never sounded more silky and rounded; even on the weaker material she`s still a pleasure to hear. "From A Distance" is, yes, the same song that Bette Midler cashed in on several years ago, although Nanci was the first to record it. The final tune is a reprise from her very first album "There`s a Light Beyond These Woods". Both renditions are beautiful.Comments supplied by users do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Roadkill Consulting, Inc. |
