Comments for Hall, Michael, Adequate Desire

Adequate Desire. The phrase comes from Emily Dickinson, but Michael Hall`s music comes by way of Lou Reed, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Television and the Beatles. After his time with the legendary Wild Seeds ("I`m Sorry, I Can`t Rock You All Night Long"), two solo albums (Quarter To Three and Love Is Murder) and a stint with the Setters (with Alejandro Escovedo and Walter Salas-Humara), Hall has released Adequate Desire, a cohesive, muscular rock-n-roll album, with vocal hooks and jags chased by buzzing guitars and swooping harmonies. With help from guests like Jon Dee Graham (True Believers), Vicki Peterson (The Bangles), Kim Longacre (The Reivers and violinist Mary Rowell (The Silos), Hall has recorded a collection of songs about life and death and all the stuff in between: loss, longing, and the sense of wonder needed to keep going. The guitars are loud, the voices are clear, and the hooks will be in your brain for a long time to come.
