Comments for Happy Mondays, Pills 'n' thrills and bellyachesE-MAIL: mu21mp@surrey.ac.uk Whatever went wrong with the Mondays? This album has to be one of the greats of the last decade. It's funk with VERY dirty trainers - and Sean Ryder and co. don't give a damn. It's a crying shame that they split - no doubt if they'd kept going, the music would have got better. Still, that's life, innit?E-MAIL: jlowe@central.georcoll.on.ca Manchester, 1990. Few "scenes" evoke such emotion among British music fans than that of "Madchester" which spawned some of the best albums and bands since the death of punk in 1980. Few bands better symoblize the era than the Happy Mondays. While not the best band to emerge from the scene (that would be the charlatans) or the most popular (the Stone Roses), the Mondays marked the incredible rise, and dissapointing fall of the Manchester scene. "Pills ''n Thrills" was their last successful album, released before Shaun Ryder''s massive drug habits led to shite albums and the ultimate break-up of the band. For the most part, the CD sounds somewhat like the Rolling Stones remixed to a trippy dance beat, the highlight being "Step On"...one of the greatest songs ever recorded. This album is a "must have" for your collection.Comments supplied by users do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Roadkill Consulting, Inc. |
