Comments for Hawkwind, The Chronicle of the Black Sword

E-MAIL: g.j.pierce@aberdeen.ac.uk
One of their classic albums and spawned a classic stage show. The original lp lacked the last three tracks ("Arioch", "Assault & Battery" (live) and "Sleep of a thousand tears" (live) which appeared on the b-sides of the singles released from the album ("Needle gun" and "Zarozinia"). Later CD reissues (e.g. DOJO CD 72 in the UK) had different bonus tracks: "The War I survived" (live) and "Voices Inside my Head" (live). "War" differs from the studio version on Xenon Codex in that it features Lloyd Langton instead of Brock on lead vocals. "Voices" is a section of an onstage jam - pointless. Line-up: Brock, Lloyd-Langton, Davey, Thompson, Bainbridge. .
Music inspired by Michael Moorcock`s "Elric" books. Thisis probably Hawkwind`s most "heavy metal" album, with lotsof guitar from Brock and Lloyd-Langton, nice bass by AlanDavey, and stripped-down drums by Danny Thompson. Thereare quieter, spacier parts(this IS Hawkwind), but they arenot the main emphasis. I like it.
