Comments for Hawkwind, Astounding Sounds Amazing Music

E-MAIL: simon.grundy@azlan.co.uk
Apparently the titles of City of Lagoons, and Chronoglide Skyway are transversed on the album sleeve. But as both are instumentals, it scarcely seems to matter. In any event both of these tunes were used occassionally on the BFBS(British Forces Broadcasting Service) Rock show, presented I think by Alan Bangs, and broadcast in Germany,as backing tracks whilst the DJ made announcements, circa late ''76. Trivia I know but..
Line-up: Dave Brock, Nik Turner, Simon House, Simon King,Allan Powell, Paul Rudolph, Bob Calvert. The first record for the Charisma label and the first withBob Calvert back on board. Generally a pretty laid-back album:even people who hate Hawkwind seem to like this one. Some excellent music, including tasteful guitar solos from (?) Paul Rudolph. "Kerbcrawler", apparently re-mixed by Dave Gilmour, was releasedas a single (CB289). The b-side, "Honky Dorky" is basicallya jam based on the instrumental section of "Reefer madness"."Steppenwolf" is based on Hesse`s book of the same name andCalvert`s lyrics were originally used on a track of the samename on Adrian Wagner`s album "Distances between us" (AtlanticK50082, 1974). Overall, something of a concept album (again),based on the old science fiction magazines - hence the titleand cover. The inner sleeve carries spoof adverts for suchdelights as Dr Brock`s "atomic pile preparation".
