A fantastic Album a real cross over from rock to punk

The Hawklords touring group was Dave Brock, Bob Calvert,Harvey Bainbridge, Steve Swindells and Martin Griffin. Thiswas recorded in 1977, except for "Over the top" which isby the Sonic Assassins (a similar line-up, without Swindells)and was released on a 12" e.p. (Flicknife FLEP 101, 1981).The Hawklords performance is excellent - its a pity thereis so little of it here. The Sonic Assassins stuff was originallysupposed to be released as an album but, on the evidenceof the e.p. isn`t all that good, except that is for "Overthe top". As the Assassins jam, Bob Calvert performs hispoem "The awakening" followed by a long improvised pieceabout war (excerpt: "Hey Kitchener, don`t you know thatmoustaches went out with the Beatles").
