Comments for Hawkwind, Year 2000:Codename Hawkwind Vol. 1

E-MAIL: Dave
The album sucks big time. There's nothing really special about the live performances here, of which there are better versions that exist. The sound quality of the tracks on CD1 doesn't quite match up to the original CD(Space Ritual vol. 2) from which they were taken off of. The sound quality of CD2 is even worse....just downright pathetic. It sounds as if it could be a bootleg, and probably is, since no exact recording date was given other than the year '1972'. It should also be noted that this album was put released by Demi-Monde, the same record label owned by ex-Hawkwind bassist Dave Anderson that put out the notoriously appalling "Bring Me The Head of Yuri Gagarin". I used to think that nothing could ever come close to touching "Bring me the head..." for the distinction of being the worst Hawkwind album ever. After listening to this trifle piece of crap, I am inclined to say that there is finally some competition for "Year 2000..." will give "Bring...." a run for its money. Just make sure it's not your money that it's running for!!!

It really womps that Hawkwind often mixes in previously released & un-released tracks together and call it an album. The first CD is comprised of their Brixton performances off Space Ritual vol. 2. CD-2 was taken from a concert at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 1972. The selections here were compiled by former Hawkwind bassist Dave Anderson.Digitally re-mastered, this limited-edition title comes in a foldable cardboard container w/interchangeable artwork packaged in an attractive plastic wallet.
