Comments for Jarre, Jean Michel, Revolutions

IMO, it is a catastrophe! One may say that it carries on in the vein of Zoolook but there is no way you can place these two together. With this album he broke into charts, and charts took their toll -- the album is mechanical, uninspired and boring. The title track is terrible. There were a couple of good tracjks here but I cannot remember which and they didn't save the whole affair. In fact, my impression was so bad that I lost all interest to JMJ for quite a while until recently I picked up a bunch of his earlier records in mint condition for bargain price.

I beg to differ. Although not as good as "Oxygene" or "Les Chants Magnetiques", "Revolutions" is very underrated and IMHO happens to be one of his better works to date. People often compare it to "Zoolook", although I don''t see why. It''s certainly a whole lot better. It might sound a bit disjointed after the first listening, and I will admit that there are a few fillers here and there that I don''t care much about (Computer Weekend, London & Tokyo Kid). Overall, however, the album is conceptually brilliant and works out quite well, especially the "Revolutions Industrielle" tracks which are the center of the album''s theme; There is a misconception that "Revolutions" is about the coming of machines, and people are upset that the music don''t quite match up to that idea. But, it isn''t. It''s about the revolution of people and the coming of the human spirit which JMJ alludes to by employing less electronics, and thus giving the music a more "human" touch. If all you care about is listening to music with a lot of "bleeps and "blips" sounds of lifeless societies where only computers and machines rule, then I would suggest you try "Kraftwerk".
