Novelty (dischord 69) was the last Jawbox album recorded under the Dischord label (Washington, D.C.) before the band's 1994 release "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" on Atlantic. These guys (and girl) are from Silver Spring, Maryland. Evertyhing they put out gets better and better. If you are into the REAL alternative rock scene, you must check this band out...

"Grippe" was Jawbox's 1st full length effort and it is a pretty good debut. It was recorded as a 3 piece (guitarist Bill Barbot didn't join until after the album was released) and although there are some good songs, the writing lacks some of the depth of the albums that followed. Also for a band that is considered to be "hardcore", Jawbox has some definite pop leanings as well as, dare I say, metal!, as well. These are not bad things, in fact if more "punk" bands could incorporate more diverse elements like Jawbox it would be a blessing. Anyhow they kick alot of ass and are one of the best bands around.
