A much-maligned recording, and my favorite Tull album! WHY! Let me count the ways. A superior studio sound is rarely associated with a Jethro Tull album, in fact there exists a faction of fans who admire their musical output because of the "rawness" it possesses. "Living In the Past", indeed! The early ''80s brought a change in direction for the classic Tull sound, with the addition of synthesizers (Oh,no!) and electronic percussion incorporated into the framework. This offended many longtime followers of the band, but founder Ian Anderson had an eye on the future. I''m quite sure that breaking away from familiar ground was a risk commercially, but the man knew what he wanted. We should all be so brave. "Under Wraps" was the culmination of Andersons technological experimentation in studio recording, a minor masterpiece. Unbiased listening to the album will reveal a soundscape of detailed creativity, proving that Anderson is so much more than the prancing violinist and vocalist he is known as. His studio expertise is remarkable, possibly even genius! After all, he did create "Aqualung".
