Comments for Joel, Billy, Cold Spring Harbor

E-MAIL: fungobat@sprynet.com
Not very interesting, incredibly dated sounding, and more often than not a bit too corny. Yes, it has "She''s Got A Way" and "Everybody Loves You Now", but that isn''t enough to keep it afloat to these ears. "Got To Begin Again" is far too cliched for an album closer, and "Falling Of The Rain" is typical 70s singer-songwriter shlock.
This is a semi-obscure early Joel album re-released in 1983. It`s very good, but there are rumors that the tape was running a little slow when they recorded it. Billy`s voice does sound very high and clear. Live versions of "She`s Got A Way" and "Everybody Loves You Now" appear on _Songs_In_The_Attic_(1981), but I prefer these versions. "Nocturne" is a beautiful classical piece, and most of the other songs on this album are lovely and somewhat melancholy. I listed this as "Rock" for want of a better category; it`s not really so easily classifiable. If you like Billy`s early stuff, this is definitely worth checking out. _Cold_Spring_Harbor_ was originally recorded in 1971 at The Record Plant and Ultrasonic Recording Studios, with Rhys Clark, Denny Siewell, and Mike McGee on drums, Don Evans and Sal De Troia on guitar, Joe Osborn and Larry Knechtel on bass, Sneaky Pete on steel guitar, Al Campbell on keyboards, and L.D. Dixon on Fender Rhodes.
