I love this album. My favorite songs are Piano Man, If I only had The words (to tell you), The Ballad of Billy the Kid and Captain Jack

Not very good at all. Billy himself hates this album from what I''ve read, and I''d have to agree with him. "Piano Man" will always be his signature tune, but what makes "Captain Jack" that terrific? The rest of the album is dreck. "Somewhere Along The Line" is especially rotten, as well as the overly corny "You''re My Home" (I could cite specific lines, but I think if you just listen to it you''ll find it bad enough without my doing that). Still, "The Ballad of Billy The Kid" holds up, and contrary to popular belief, the song is not about Billy Joel, as he himself points out in the liner notes too Songs In The Attic.
This is the album that made Billy. It`s got lots of country influence, despite the feelings he voices in "Country Western" (never recorded). "Ain`t No Crime" really rocks, "You`re My Home" and "If I Only..." are very touching, and the rest of the songs are fairly up-tempo and grooving. Except "Piano Man" and "Captain Jack", which I shouldn`t need to discuss. I listed this as "Rock" for want of a better category; it`s Billy. _Piano_Man_ was recorded in 1972, but my CD doesn`t give studio or band information, if someone could please add that.
