Comments for Joel, Billy, Songs In The Attic

An interesting live album of early songs. Sounds terrific on CD. Some tracks I could have done without, such as "Los Angelenos", "Streetlife Serenader", and "Captain Jack". But the rest is all pretty great. I tend to like the tracks that were recorded in smaller venues a bit better ("Summer, Highland Falls", "Everybody Loves You Now").

How could anyone do without those songs?!?! Captain Jack is the song that made Billy Joel, 25 years ago. Anyone that doesn't like Streetlife Serenader must not be a Billy Joel fan. I can see Los Angelenos only because the live version is pretty much like the studio version. Three great songs!! Anyway...This is a great live album from beginning to end.

This album is significant for the new versions Billy turned in of classic tunes "She''s Got a Way," and "Say Goodbye to Hollywood." "She''s Got a Way" is one of the top three songs Billy has ever released. This version features just him and his piano and it''s no wonder it was a Top 25 hit when released as a single.
Fantastic live rock `n` roll, showcasing more obscure songs from _Cold_Spring_Harbor_ to _Turnstiles_. Wonderful notes for each song and roadie from Billy. "Miami 2017" June 1980, Madison Square Garden, New York, NY. "Summer, Highland Falls" July 1980, Bayou, Washington, DC. "Streetlife Serenader" July 1980, St. Paul Civic Center, St. Paul, MN. "Los Angelenos" July 1980, Toad`s Place, New Haven, CT. "She`s Got A Way" June 1980, Paradise Club, Boston, MA. "Everybody Loves You Now" July 1980, Bayou, Washington, DC. "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" June 1980, Milwaukee Arena, Milwaukee, WI. "Captain Jack" July 1980, Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA. "You`re My Home" July 1980, Bayou, Washington, DC. "The Ballad Of Billy The Kid" June 1980, Madison Square Garden, New York, NY. "I`ve Loved These Days" July 1980, Horizon, Chicago, IL.
