By far my favorite. My opinion is that like good wine, Elton gets better with age

Definitely the best from the Best, and what a great symphony!

Quite simply THE best live version of 'Your Song' ever

Elton's piano sounds wonderful with the orchestra. However, this album is very hard for me to listen to because it was recorded right before he had throad surgery, and it sounds as if he is in pain throughout. That would also explain his trouble hitting some of the higher notes. His throat problems and the fact that most of the songs are in minor key make this, IMO, a rather depressing album. I am glad he bounced back so well after the surgery!

Simply the best album ever and still in demand!

This album is proof that Elton is truly the consummate performer. The damage to his voice is evident, but he uses the hoarseness to convey passion and character. The contrast between "I Need You to Turn To" for instance, from the first version to this live one, is new and exciting. The lyrics seem to come from one who can understand and interpret them. And the presence of the orchestra gives each song its due, providing all of the beautiful underworkings that allow Elton's piano and vocal work to stand well supported. Free from over-effected interpretations and computerized gimmicks, this is a performance in classic style. Elton is as good as ever.

Absolutely one of the best recordings Elton ever made. Though the throat is obviously in bad shape, I have to agree -- it makes all the difference. Suddenly, the songs take on an added depth and emotion. And the orchestration is simply beautiful. GET THIS ALBUM.

This album is one of my favorites. Elton John is Elton John, scratchy voice or not. I thought he sounded perfect with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. I wish he would do that again sometime in the near future.

EJ proves his worth here. Few, if any, musicians can sing better AFTER throat surgery! But aside from that, the album is a master piece. Not only does he include his his like "Your Song", "Candle in the Wind" and "Don't let the sun..", he includes gems like "Tonight", "Burn down the mission" and "Sixty years on". The definition of classic.

This album is soooooo good. Elton John is the best performer/musician to ever walk the earth. Bernie Taupin is the best lyric writer, likewise. This album proves it. Good going Elton, I hope you do this again, or maybe you could release a volume 2 with even more Mel.Sym.Or. tracx from this performance(s).

EVER SINCE I HEARD "YOUR SONG", I'VE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH ELTON'S ROMANTIC LYRICS WHICH TOUCH MY HEART. I HOPE THAT HE WILL WRITE MANY MORE HEART-TOUCHING ALBUMS IN HIS FUTURE

I love this concert very much. I think it is the best one he ever gave becouse it is full of passion. The sound of instruments of the orchestra is terific, and the arrangement of the old Elton's songs like "Tonight" is really something. For my favorite song from this concert is "The Gratest Discovery". It is wonderful.

i'm at a loss to understand the passion that this album recieves. some of elton's singing is painful to listen to and there's not a single song here that isn't better somewhere else. i admit that the orchestra is breathtaking especially on the four songs without the band that leads off the disc. also wasn't this concept (rock band with symphony orchestra live in concert recorded for posterity) done first by procol harum. i know one thing nothing here equals their version of conquistador from that album.

I''ve heard a ton of different versions of many of Elton''s songs-- including origional studio recordings and live performances. But this album contains some of the absolute best renditions of his songs! My personal favorites from the album are Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word, Take Me to the Pilot, Tiny Dancer, Burn Down the Mission, Madman Across the Water, and Your Song. They have NEVER SOUNDED BETTER! Elton didn''t let his ailing voice stop him from creating a priceless concert album. Where some people would have just given up, Elton persevered and gave it his all. It was spectacular!

Great Sound and recording from a Live Orchestra but a shame about Elton's voice as the vocals are really bad on this one. The early material is given life here and sounds great. Nice harp on Sixty Years on and I need you to turn to.
