Comments for John, Elton, Duets

Overall a disapointing album. The selection of guests is okay, but why not a duet with Billy Joel, or Sting, or Natalie Merchant. Any of these would have been better than Tammy Wynette!

The best track on this album has to be 'Old Friend' with my 1980's hero, Nik Kershaw. This is a truly fantastic original track which would have 'hit' written all over it had it been released as a single. The time must surely come when Nik returns to the fore in his own right, and based on this particular track, the sooner the better!!

An album any EJ fan should have. "Teardrops" is catchy, and upbeat. "When I think about love" and "The Power" are soulful and stirring. EJ's and Kiki Dee's "True Love" does Cole Porter justice. "Shakey Ground" rocks, but is too repeative. The remaining tracks "Old Friend", "Go on and on", "Don't go breaking my heart" "Nothing like the real thing" are classics. "A womans's needs" and "Love letters" are touching, but border on sentimental. Luckily, they are saved by good production. "Born to lose" would be good, if not for Leonard Cohen's raspy voice. "Duets for One" is catchy and memorable, and finally, "don't let the sun..." is the high point of this album. EJ and George Micheal once again prove they make a great team. A possible 10, but because of "Born to lose", it gets a 9 1/2.

This album was a dud. Big mistake. But for some reason, I'm the only one who thinks that. I'll just be quiet.

It might be an excellent album, but... without Elton John! He spoils everything! Maybe except for "Don't Let the Sun.."

DUETS is a fabulous albumn! "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" by Elton & RuPaul always makes me smile and Elton & George Michael should sing together more often. I also really like DUETS FOR ONE.I hope everyone will give this a chance.

On `Elton John Duets`, the artistengages with his duet partners in a way that Sinatra cannnot match. `Teardrops`, the opening reworking of the 1988 Womack and Womack number with k.d.lang is the standout track - flawless vocals and flawless Greg Penny production. The selection of material is first-rate [only the Don Henley number disappoints] and the choice of co-vocalists is inspired. Marcella Detroit`svocal on the old Ashford and Simpson number `Ain`t Nothing Like The Real Thing, being worthy of particular mention. Unmissable.RATING: [OUT OF 5] *****
