Love this one. Classic. "Blues For Baby & Me" is the most beautiful song.

this album was burnt to the coals by contemporary critics. this was a kneejerk reaction to the superstardom that elton had attained. this actually holds up pretty nicely.most of the songs here at first seem like throwaways until you listen a few times.every song here is a treasure in it's own way. then theres crocodile rock which is one of the great songs of rock-n-roll history. the bonus cuts add to the packages making it a must have.

Elton''s second #1 album is indeed a pop treat; not to be put in the same league as "Yellow Brick Road" or "Captain Fantastic", but should be placed in a list of his top ten albums. If you have the vinyl, then you know how great a sleeve it is- photos of EJ and Bernie, the band, all the lyrics, etc. (unlike many of the records released by other artists in the seventies where all you would probably get is the list of musicians and a cheesy photo of the star). Being that it was EJ''s first #1 single, ''Crocodile Rock'' is the highlight of this LP. ''Daniel'' hit #2 on the Billboard chart, but is certainly a classic ballad that is still played on AC radio stations and in concert. This album is not for everyone, though. Some may resent the "poppy" sound of it: ''Teacher I Need You'', ''Elderberry Wine'', ''Crocodile Rock'', ''I''m Going To Be A Teenage Idol''... but Elton more than makes up for it with such soaring tracks such as ''Blues For My Baby And Me'', ''Have Mercy On The Criminal'', a funny ditty like ''Texan Love Song'', and the cozy ''High Flying Bird'' which features some of the best harmonies that Davey, Dee, and Nigel ever put together on an Elton John album. Oh, and to close- Do yourself a favor and buy the remastered CD. It has the 1972/3 piano version of ''Skyline Pigeon'', which was a B-side to ''Daniel'' and originally a track on EJ''s first album ''Empty Sky'' (1969).
This album was released in 1973, the same year "GoodbyeYellow Brick Road" was released. Features #1 hits "Daniel" and "Crocodile Rock."
