Comments for John, Elton, 16 LEGENDARY COVERS FROM 1969-70

Back in the primitive days of the early 70`s ,before K-Tel , record companies would release albums with oodles of hits . New ones. the only problem was that they weren`t the original versions. However they were cheap and the titles were often too hard to resist. Yes I`m sad to admit I had a couple too. Funny thing was sometimes these crass commercial rippoffs could sometimes could be quite good. Now here we are in the late 90`s and lo and behold one of the true gods of rock-n-roll music is found to have these skeletons hiding in his closet. Quite a few of them in fact!! Someone with a good ear found these digitalized them and released them for us Elton junkies to enjoy. Because these were English hits some of the titles here are unfamiliar but don`t let that stop you. MY BABY LOVES LOVIN is magnificent and it is my opinion that LADY D`ARBANVILLE is better than Cat Stevens original. On the downside Elton, even for profit , should never have attempted anything by C.C.R.. Also on COME AND GET IT Elton`s contribution is nearly impossible to ascertain. In spite of the utter seriousness that the liner notes approach this disc it`s bound to become a kitsch classic. As with the recordings original release CAVEAT EMPTOR. This is for Elton fans ,others may need not apply.
