Comments for Joy Division, Still

E-MAIL: kburt@plato.ucs.mun.ca
The live tracks on this album were all taken from Joy Division''s last gig at Birmingham University, May 5, 1980. The sound quality is hardly as pristine and glossy as most live releasess, but fans will definitely want to own this. I think the concert tracks were probably taken from a board tape. The version of "Ceremony" is incomplete, but it is the only recording of this track ever released as it was never recorded in studio and was debuted live on this night. Some of the live tracks are my favorite versions - notably, "New Dawn Fades," "Passover," "Decades," and "Disorder." One live track was deleted from the original tracklisting of the double LP, "24 Hours," to facilitate a single CD. There are rumours that the Japanese 2CD pressing includes that track, but they are false. Some of the sudio tracks are very worthwhile additions to your collection as well, including "Exercise One," "Ice Age," "Something Must Break," and "Walked In Line," as well as "Dead Souls" which is also available on the _Substance_ compilation. "Sister Ray," recorded live at the Moonlight Club, is a Velvet Underground cover.
A compilation of singles and a dozen or so live performances.Used to be quite rare, but becoming more widely available.
