Comments for Keats, Keats

This album is very poppy and quite accessible. The lyrics are nothing like as good as Eric Woolfson's, no matter who is writing, but they are all (notably Pete Bardens) better songwriters than you might expect from previous work. There are some nice Japanese-sounding synth. & percussion parts and the cover sports a bizarre face that is rather like a Japanese mask. The musicianship is accomplished and fun, adding substance to the songs. In style it sits nicely between APP's "Ammonia Avenue" & "Vulture Culture" but without the lyrical depth. Pete Bardens uses his usual elemental, New-Agey type imagery but this sits fine with the other songwriters. "Night Full of Voices" by Elliott/Blunstone is a standout, as is David Paton's "Walking on Ice" (which he sings). The APP discography has a translation of the Japanese liner notes (by Yuka Tateisi) which is quite useful. Ian Thomas

Enjoy it for what it is.
Keats is basically the Alan Parsons Project band memberswith Pete Bardens from Camel thrown in. Alan Parsons produces/engineers the album, with the band members doing the songwriting.
