Comments for King Crimson, THRAK

Love the songs, and the new members are great! I would like to hear more of Gunn though.

I can't listen to it; it's heavy metal with lots of percussive undertow - other people are doing this better, I see no value in this project. Pretty damned hard to listen to. "Dinasour" is a funny lyric but I can't listen to that either. The first KC album I ever disliked.

This is the 2nd KC release I ever heard (The first being In The Court of the Crimson King). In all honesty, though I like the songs on their first album, THRAK is just so much more guitar-oriented (as opposed to songs like Epitaph and In The Court of the Crimson King, where the guitar really doesn't stand out). Bill and Pat's drumming is really well coordinated, and excellent as usual. As for the comment someone made about this being heavy metal, they obviously haven't heard Helloween or Metallica. This isn't metal, it's heavy prog-rock, or something...

While it's not what I'd consider "classic", there are some great songs on this album. There's not one song on THRaK that I don't like (though some I like more than others). I don't know if it's up there with the first and second albums, but, despite what's been said, this album has well-written songs as well as excellent musicianship. And considering the band's age, it's quite extraordinary that they're still putting out stuff that is good. As a review in the Rocket described crimson: they were the only progressive rock band to actually progress.

No stagnation here. This is great!!!!

compared to VROOOM, this was very much a letdown. none of the songs that are on both albums are better here than on VROOOM. and the "inner garden" interludes are as pointless as the "peace" interludes on In the Wake of Poseidon. but having said all that, "dinosaur" and "walking on air" (that awesome backwards guitar sound again!) are definitely the highlights and are as good as anything on VROOOM. and the "radio" interludes are good introductions to fripp''s soundscapes (or frippertronix the next generation).
Simply put, THRAK shreds!
