Comments for King Crimson, VROOOM

E-MAIL: serlichm@ibm.net
King Crimson is one of my all time favorite groups, and I have been a die hard fan for since The Court. I am disappointed with this new album. After all of that rest time, I expected something a little more creative. I also miss the individual group member tours: Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists Bruford and Moraz Any tours like that in the works???

As a full blown new album, VROOOM would be disappointing. As a mere calling card, VROOOM is very exciting. This record is as much as exercise as a performance, recorded before their Argentinan tour together. The potential of this mind-boggling collection of talent is evident. The execution will be worth waiting for (though hopefully not TOO much longer...)

This is not an album. Once you take that into consideration, you'll discover a very intricate EP with both diversity and orchestration. This is a preview for the next album "Thrak". King Crimson never sound the same twice. Yet they always sound like KC. Check out the many tricky licks on "Sex, Sleep, Eat, Dream"

Teaser CD for Double Trio formation. Enticing. (I actually like One Time better on Vrooom than Thrak)

90s kc rocks! although it''s kinda hard to tell who''s doing what here, the production is sterile enough so you can definitely hear everybody clearly. "VROOOM" is a "Red" for the 90s. "Cage" is Adrian Belew at his goofiest (like "Elephant Talk" and "Neurotica"). and "Thrak" and esp. "When I Say Stop, Continue" work well as the improvisational pieces. but the highlights are definitely "sex sleep eat drink dream" and the beautiful "one time".
"We present VROOOM as a calling card rather than a love letter to those generous enough to give it ears," read the liner notes. A group of 6, the layered patterns threaten to come crashing down upon themselves, but survive without leaving too much debris. Adrian`s vocals are right on; Fripp and Adrian play soaring guitars; Trey Gunn and Tony Levin play their patened stick and bass sounds; and Bill Bruford and Pat Mastelotto leave you wondering what they`d sound like with just ONE MORE percussionist. Recorded May 2-7, 1994.
