Comments for Kinks, the, Kinks Kronikles

It's not perfect, but this is the best compilation album so far. And until the 1980s, the liner notes were the best quasi-biography about the Kinks. A double-barrelled winner!

I have a soft spot for the Kink Kronikles. It's the one that turned me into a fanatic, with those breath- taking Village Green-era gems.

The best compilation you can find without compiling your own from your library. This is a must have, since many songs on it can only be found on singles or the "Percy" soundtrack which was only released in Europe. I personally made my own compilation based on this album including the best from here, the best from other compilations such as "The Golden Hour Of The Kinks" and "Celluloid Heroes". I got it on a 60 minute Maxell UD tape. It covers between the years 1964-1972 quite well. Great car tape. Nothing beats the personal compilation.

This definitely is the best Kinks compilation thus far. Since they were left off this submission, I thought I'd list the complete track listing: Disc 1: Victoria, The Village Green Preservation Society, Berkeley Mews, Holiday in Waikiki, Willesden Green, This Is Where I Belong, Waterloo Sunset, David Watts, Dead End Street, Shangri-La, Autumn Almanac, Sunny Afternoon, Get Back in Line, Did You See His Name? Disc 2: Fancy, Wonderboy, Apeman, King Kong, Mr. Pleasant, God's Children, Death of a Clown, Lola, Mindless Child of Motherhood, Polly, Big Black Smoke, Suzannah's Still Alive, She's Got Everything, Days By the way-whatever happened to this album's sequel compilation that was indicated in the liner notes? Never got off the ground?

What's the origin of "Days"??? I love that song, yet I can't find it on any original album. Kink Kronikles was my intro to the Kinks, and for the songs I liked the best I went out and bought the albums they came from... "days" must have been a single, eh?

In answer to the question about a sequel to the Kronikles, I seem to remember reading that The Great Lost Kinks Album was the result of this idea. Although I may be mixing up this info with some that refers to the earlier lost album called Four More(Or Less)Respected Gentlemen which was never released.

i do think that this is a perfect record, if for no other reason than that it gives a very well-rounded and, more importantly, honest overview of their scope and versatility. yeah, it's got a couple of less-appealing or maybe even uninteresting songs on it, but the kinks have done more than a few of those. when one actually has the bravery to sift through such a monolithic record, it goes beyond entertainment into something much more all-encompassing. this is speculation, but i think this record shows where their collective head was throughout those years.

This is the best Kinks compilation album thus far. It contains their biggest hits and many interesting 1rst rate and 2nd rate b-sides, singles, and previously unreleased songs. 1966-1971 is covered here which is the golden age of the kinks....probably a good first purchase for the unitiated too. Check out the 1968-69 "Village Green" era songs on here.....such as the quirky "Berkley Mews."
