Comments for Kinks, the, Muswell Hillbillies

Two things distinguish this terrific album: It's probably the most personal collection of songs Ray Davies has ever released, and it's probably the funniest album I've ever heard. Acute Schizophrenia, Holiday, Skin and Bone, and Alcohol remained staples of Kinks shows for more than half a decade, and fit right in with the spirit of their quasi- Vaudeville shows of the period.

I'd rank this as being in my top 3 Kinks LPs. Excellent lyrics (again) from RDD.

This really is a superb album. It's dry wit and sad tales probably make it the most rewarding of all Kinks albums to listen too. obably make it the most rewarding album since The Village Green Preservation Society - in top five Kinks albums.

One of my favorite albums - although not when it was released. (I was a kid and I think the country feel in some places put me off) I'd guess it has withstood the old test of time as well or better than anything the Kinks have done. Not that the other stuff has suffered, just that this one keeps sounding better.

I played my copy of this album the other night and relize it's worn out. Not surprising. Does anyone know where I can get a cassette version?

This is my all-time favorite album by anybody. I've worn out 2 LPs and will surely do the same to the Rhino CD, if that's possible! Is there a more evocative song than "Oklahoma USA"?

A more laidback country sound to this album, not a bad thing, but I just don't think it ranks up to their great pop masterpeices on albums like "Village Green" or "Arthur". The band has a more straigtforward rocking sound with songs like "Skin and Bone." It's a good album but not as intense or irresistable as their few previous works. "Alcohol", "20th Century Man", and "The People In Grey" are some of the strongest tracks. Some great sax in here too.. the sound of the album is kinda reminiscent of "village Green" though much more produced and a lot more newer sounding.

I thought I''d never hear an album as good as Arthur but Damn! This is the greatest Kinks album(that''s saying alot) and the greatest album of all time. It rules
My second favorite Kinks album (right behind Village Green).
