An underappreciate album. It features some great driving rock numbers (my favorite's "Sold Me Out") along with softer gems like "Summer's Gone". Nice mixture.

Notable also for Dave's "Living on a Thin Line." A few so-so songs but "Summer's Gone" and "Do It Again" more that make up for any short-comings.

According to many Kinks fans Word of mouth is one of their weakest albums. Thsi is probably partly true, but it should be noted that the album includes many very good songs. Do it again, Missing persons, Good day and Summer's gone are Kinks classics and Dave's Livin' on a thin line is Dave at his best. So actually this album is better than its reputation.

A very underappreciated album -- probably the most consistently good batch of songs the band released during the Arista era, ironically given that, as other reviews have noted, it was only partly a true band album. In any case, Dave thankfully eases off the distortion on his guitar, to much punchier effect. Do It Again, Good Day, Missing Persons, Living on a Thin Line, Going Solo, Summer's Gone -- they're all very strong songs and good performances.

WOM is definitely one of my favorite albums, not just of the Kinks, but all time. I never grew tired of listening to it. It provided a fresh sound for the Kinks in what I consider a most timely manner. That is it rejuvenated my interest in the Kinks. I have not been able to find a CD version. Cany anyone provide any information on how to procure a copy? -Thanks and Regards

I like to crank up "Guilty" in my car. Killer guitar sound! I found this CD not too long ago, still in one of those "long box" plastic containers.

A just ok album, certainly not one of the Kinks'' essential albums. Better off spending money on one of Ray''s great 20 Kink albums. Also marked beginning of commercial decline that continues to this day......
Something of a transitional album, this combines "regular"Kinks songs with songs from Return to Waterloo (featuringthe whole band minus Dave). The result is something quitedifferent from the last four albums. For one thing, Ray`sproduction may be his most ambitious, with a lot of fancyendings and unusual sounds -- and nothing with the fuzzyguitar sound that had dominated since Low Budget. That maybe why this was their worst-selling album for Arista. But itstill sold far better than anything afterward, and Do ItAgain was a near-Top 40 hit. This is one of my threefavorite albums from the Arista years.
