'The way love used to be' is an absolute classic. Percy is worth getting just for it.

It's me again. I can't believe it, but a few weeks ago I found this CD at Circuit City!!! (They also had 'Misfits', 'Low Budget', and 'Give the People What They Want'!) I bought this album without even hesitating, and it was only 12.99 - the same price as a non-imported Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, or Floyd CD! And I must say that this album is a lot more impressive than I thought it would be. The Lola instrumental rocks, as do most of the other diverse-styled instrumentals. As for the songs with lyrics, they are great as well. However, it's a shame that they've been so underexposed. "Dreams," "Moments," "Animals in the Zoo" and "The Way Love Used to Be" are some of the finest songs of that time! The better known tracks, "God's Children" and "Willesden Green" are good as well, but I don't like them as much, and "Just Friends" is somewhat corny. Still, I like this album more with every listen. Go out and look for it. Leave no stone unturned!! It's one of the best movie soundtrack albums I've ever heard (next to Pink Floyd's 'More' and 'Obscured By Clouds')!!!!

I really was disappointed with this album(yes, I found it on cd). Without seeing the movie, I thought that many of the tracks didn't work. Perhaps they fit better into the context of the movie, but I didn't enjoy them very much on their own. Incidentally I thought the instrumental version of "Lola" was corny and lame(and this comes from a dedicated follower of the Kinks). "God's Children" is the only redeeming song on this otherwise disappointing release. Ok, maybe "The Way Love Used To Be" too.

It might interest some enthusiasts to know that the CD of this album put out by Castle Communications in 1989 also includes bonus material under the name "The Album That Never Was". This consists of officially released Dave Davies songs from the late ''60s: ''Death Of A Clown'', ''Love Me Till The Sun Shines'', ''Suzannah''s Still Alive'', ''Funny Face'', ''Lincoln County'', ''There''s No Life Without Love'', ''Hold My Hand'', ''Creeping Jean'', ''Mindless Child Of Motherhood'' and ''This Man He Weeps Tonight''. The liner notes admit that not all of these songs would have ended up on the unreleased album that Dave made, but this was supposed to be sort of what it would have been like.
This was a soundtrack album to the film of the same name. Whenfirst released back in March of `71, it was only released in Europe. It is available here as an import, but I have yet to see it anywhere. It was also their last release on the Pye label.I can`t really say anything about this album since I`ve only heard thesongs "God`s Children" and "Willesden Green" from it (which Iprobably wouldn`t have heard at all if it weren`t for "The KinkKronikles.") I have heard the album uses a lot of string arrangementsthough. Have any of you out there heard this album in its entirety? I`d like some feedback about it.
