This is not the really Kiss-sound. But itīs a great album with many other styles of music.

Despite the lack of typical Kiss sounds, the Gene Simmons vocals on "A World Without Heroes" alone make this an excellent album. (Note: This song also appears on the Unplugged CD)

You never think of this as a rocking album, but check out "I," "Dark Light," and "Mr. Blackwell." At the time this album was recorded, Ace and the rest of the band were barely speaking. The band would record the songs, then send the tapes to Ace for him to play his solos on. He had an underground studio at his home. He would get the tapes, go to his studio, lay down the leads, and send the tapes back. This is Eric's "official" debut.

forget that this is a concept album, listen to it! Ace gives one of his best performances in Dark Light. Gene is downright evil in Mr. Blackwell. Paul shows that he is the rock god with The Oath and he and Gene really get down in I. So what if their direction is weird, the material could...and DOES....stand on its own.

Without a doubt,a very misunderstood and underrated album. This was an album way ahead of its time!Very far reaching & progressive in its undertaking.Much more so than on previous releases, yet fans turned away from this in droves.I guess that Kiss fans couldn't tolerate a concept album in the vein of Rush,Pink Floyd,or the Moody Blues. While not one of their best recordings,it certainly could have been. One wonders how it might have turned out had Kiss spent 6-9 more months working on it.The sound quality:tight and polished while Paul Stanley's vocals soar. This album contains some of Ace's best guitar playing and Eric Carr demonstrates that he is more than competent to handle the drums on this studio outting. This was indeed a very good album, not perfect, but just good.

The best kiss album, maybe because it is the less commercial. Songs like "Under the rose", "The oath" and "I" are just like great.

By far one of there greatist albums ever. This album turned away most KISS fans , but its a GREAT album with a great concept!Even thought the band was barely talkin its still a good album musically. Also Ace does some of his best work on "Dark Light".Gene''s song , "A world Without Heros" is also a very moving song. Over all just a great album!!
An album WAY ahead of it`s time, the whole cd tells a story. It was the last album Ace played on as a member of Kiss. Thisis generally reguarded by Kiss fans as their worst album. Howeverit features some of Ace`s best guitar work on the solos. Intrestingside note, Kiss played two or three songs from this album intheir recent Unplugged session at the Kiss Konvention.
