Comments for Kraftwerk, The Mix

Having known of Kraftwerk for many years, it is nice to see a compilation album such as this. The music blends well from track to track. My only beefs are the re-working of Autobahn. I didn't really like the added stuff. Music Non Stop... What the hell is that? Totally off base from the rest of the album. I listened to about 35 minutes of it before I stopped it. It is the only track I don't listen to. But the rest of it is GREAT!

I bought "The Mix" when it was released in the UK (June 1991). I had only just gotten into the electronic thing, but I can safely say that this album was and still is a SUPERB introduction to it. Having listened to all the original recordings of the tracks, its great to hear how well they have been stuck to, but with a '90s edge that makes them kick - I should know,I've used the Mix version of "Pocket Calculator" for DJing many times, and its a winner. Sure, it's an album of re-worked re-releases, but who cares when they sound this good?

Overall, I am impressed with The Mix. Other serious Kraftwerk fans I know have a pretty strong dislike for the new version of Autobahn, but I have grown to enjoy it. Trans-Europe express has been re-worked into some of the best sex music I've ever heard. Apart from T.E.E., though, it can be very difficult at first to accept the dance style Kraftwerk has injected into its older tunes. "Pocket Calculator" and "Autobahn" are probably the biggest examples of this. I look at it this way: If Kraftwerk had written these songs in the 90's, this is probably how they would have sounded in the first place. VERY strongly recommended for any fan of modern electrnic dance music.

Forget that the originals sounded different. Take it for what it's worth. It's very good.

I don''t agree to everybody who thinks this is a good album. The old version are in every case much stronger, especially ''Radioaktivitaet'' which is now cheesy as hell. But for some people it''s probably simply not ''hip'' to buy the original versions from 1975 to 1981...
Collection of Krafwerk greatest hitsin the sound appropriate for the nineties. Two versions available, English and German
